Student Publications

The University of Southern Philippines considers student publications as vehicles for literacy and journalistic talents as venues for training in responsible journalism. It is, therefore, its policy to allow an official organ, newsletters and/or research journals. Such publications may be financed and supported by the students, the faculty members, and/or the University as such; they are supervised by a moderator whose moderating functions are guided by the administration, Code of Journalistic Ethics and respect for the equal rights of others.

The Southern Scholar
The Southern Scholar is the official student publication of the University of Southern Philippines. It aims to help the students internalized the goals and objectives of the institution by providing proper forum for training students for campus writing in line with academic freedom’ disseminating information on the curricular and co-curricular activities and interests of the student publication, inculcating a deep sense of involvement with the tenets of journalism and effective communication by practicing faithfully and consistently objectivity, truthfulness accuracy, and responsibility.

The Yearbook
As a policy, the University for reasons of austerity discourages the publication of a yearbook. Should students, however, as a body of graduating students, or as a department, of a combination of one (1) or two (2) departments, insist on having a yearbook, the University tolerates its publication on condition that it is moderated by a faculty member designated by the University. The students are expected to fully finance it. Deficiencies in payments by the students concerned, however, may not be considered as a cause for denying request for clearance.

Notices and Posters
School notices and posters are posted on various bulletin boards. It is the student’s responsibility to read this notices. Bulletin boards are for official use only and tampering any of them is considered a serious offense. No student may post any notice or poster in the school premises without permission from the SAO Office.
