OISSP Holds Lecture on INDIA and TAIWAN
International students are considered important and integral part of the USPF community. With many opportunities for involvement on campus, international students have the chance to intimately learn about variety of culture and at the same time share their own culture.
The Office for International Students and Special Programs organized lecture on Intercultural Appreciation: Getting to Know More about India and Taiwan on February 9, 2010 9:00 -12:00 noon at the Moot Court. An interactive lecture and discussion was done by our very own international students: India by Ramandeep Singh and Taiwan by Li Jo Pei.
High school students through the Asian History Classes and World Literature joined the aforesaid activity. The objectives of the activity were to develop intercultural appreciation among students; provide venue for the international students to share their culture; and provide enhancement for students’ learning about other countries straight from the international speakers.
Interesting topics like history, geography, famous personalities, religion, beliefs, clothing, marriage, scenic spots and education were elaborately discussed. Gracious enough that the two speakers included a short tutorial of their language. A demonstration was done on their dances and songs.
One of the missions of USPF is to develop its students to become globally competent. With this, students should be exposed of learning different culture and learn to appreciate the uniqueness and complexity of international culture. The development of intercultural appreciation is a step towards the development of being globally competent.
The next country that will be featured will be Korea and Sudan on July 2010.
